What Time and What Channel Are the Golden Globes on

HFPA will reveal nominations on December 13

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) announced on Friday that it will present the 79th annual Golden Globe Awards on January 9, 2022 despite NBC not televising the event and whether or not any channel will air the event. The HFPA did not specify any telecast plans.

The HFPA will reveal nominations on December 13. The deadline for movie and television submission entry forms is November 15.

The HFPA previously sent out a letter to studios detailing the eligibility rules for the 79th Golden Globes. The HFPA did not specify if it will host an actual event to give out the awards.

NBC announced on May 10 that it will not air the Golden Globe Awards in 2022 due to the HFPA not setting a timeline for change following controversy regarding its lack of diversity. Earlier in May, the HFPA had an approved plan for reform that would include increasing its number of people of color, as well as new restrictions on gifts that members could receive.

NBC stated it believes the HFPA is committed to meaningful reform, and it added that the organization will need time to do it right. However, executives were concerned that the HFPA did not set a timeline for these changes, nor did it display movement toward rethinking membership goals.

Although NBC will not air the Golden Globes next year, the network stated that it is hopeful to be in a position to air the show in 2023.

Two anime feature films have been nominated in previous Golden Globe Awards. Hayao Miyazaki's The Wind Rises was nominated for the "Best Foreign Language Film" award at the 71st Golden Globes, and Mamoru Hosoda's Mirai was nominated for the "Best Motion Picture – Animated" award at the 76th Golden Globes. The Golden Globes changed its rules in 2014 to stipulate that foreign animated films must compete in the Best Animated Feature category, and are no longer eligible for the Best Foreign Language Film category.

Update: Among other sweeping changes, the HFPA updated its rules in May so that non-English language films and animated films can compete for the top two awards in the Best Motion Picture – Drama and Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy categories.

January 9 is also the date of the Critics Choice Awards ceremony, which The CW will broadcast in the United States. Source: IndieWire
